Where The Hell's The Enemy?

Where The Hell's The Enemy ? is the story of a small group of ne'er-do well army reservists, who couldn't do anything right even if it was the only way to do it.  They could screw up things impossible to screw up.  Most were losers, living at the Salvation Army.  They were part of a small army reserve transportation unit. (truck drivers)  Although, their new sergeant was unwilling to admit he was scared to death to even ride with them.

Most duty weekends, the members of the unit could be found reading playboy with their feet up on a desk, or at the NCO club playing the pinball machines.  Sergeant Thomson, a recently discharged army vet of over twenty years, was not only dismayed at their lack of military training, lack of honesty and their lack of enthusiasm, he was overwhelmed by having the job of turning this gangs of misfits into soldiers.  He knew it wouldn't be long before they were activated  and sent to the Persian Gulf.

He was again dismayed at the ineptitude of the unit's commanding officer, a lowly second lieutenant, a lawyer without clients in private life.  How in the hell anyone of his ilk could have ever had a gold bar pinned to his shoulder was a true mystery to Sergeant Thompson.  But, being the good soldier he was, it was his duty to whip these people into shape to help fight a war.

Going to summer active duty camp, the lieutenant talked him into traveling through and stopping overnight in Las Vegas.  Of course, everyone went out on their own pursuit, gambling, looking for a prostitute or whatever they could find that was exciting and different than their hum drum life in San Antonio.  When Lieutenant Noble sells one of their deuce-and-a-half trucks to a rancher to obtain funds to continue gambling to make up his losses, Sergeant Thompson is on the verge of killing the idiot.

But, they retrieved the truck at gunpoint and continued on to California.  No sooner did they arrive back in San Antonio, then they were activated and sent to the Persian Gulf.  Despite every error and mistake a unit could possibly make, like getting lost in the desert in Southern Iraq and ending up far north, well behind enemy lines, for the most part, they come out of the battle intact and heroes.

Where The Hell's The Enemy? is an hilarious story that will make you laugh until you nearly pee your pants, but it will also bring tears to your eyes.  The heroes of Where the Hell's the Enemy? will make you proud to be an American and proud that even ne'er-do-wells can come through and become more than what would be expected of them.
